Why does the FREEdom from CCA team support Moving For the Cure?
We "move" in hopes that other friends and families will not lose that infectious smile and laughter in their life as we did way too soon. We "move" to offer the hope new clinical trials can provide through our support. We "move" for awareness of a very rare cancer that sneaks up and attacks before anyone is aware due to that rarity. Approximately 10,000 annually and in the case of the CCA type Michael had approximately 1,000 nationwide. Those numbers still give us pause. We "move" for early detection for both patients and doctors. We "move" so this rare cancer can be defeated and smiles and laughter will continue for others for many years to come. We "move" to honor Michael, with the knowledge he would have wanted to help others too.

Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare but deadly cancer that has very little name recognition or awareness. Due to this lack of visibility, it is often overlooked as symptoms can mimic those of other illnesses and diagnosis comes too late. Conventional cancer treatments remain ineffective against cholangiocarcinoma, and most people diagnosed with advanced disease have less than a 5% chance of surviving at least five years. While almost 2 out of 3 people with bile duct cancer are 65 or older, people of nearly any age can be diagnosed. There has been an alarming increase in the past decade of young individuals being diagnosed in their 20’s, 30’s or 40’s.
