Thank you so much for visiting Team Wonder Women’s page!

The history (her story) of the Wonder Women is long, magical and has its ups and downs. Our founder and fearless leader, Miranda began swimming the Mile for WCRC in 2000. She enjoyed getting in shape and felt great that every donation she made would go straight to helping women with cancer, through the Women with Cancer Resource Center.

in 2015, Mark and Rachel Schwartz, along with Miranda’s friend Julie joined Miranda for the swim and Team Wonder Women was born! Both Mark and Julie were cancer survivors and their strength powered the team.

In the years since, many Wonder Women have joined Miranda in her quest to help Women with Cancer through the Swim A Mile.

Sarah McManus joined the team when she was just six years old! Her mom, Alita joined a year or two later. Friends Kathleen and Nora  also have become swimmers and fundraisers.

With the pandemic, the Swim shifted to the Swim a Mile/Move a Mile. Miranda had decided to walk that year, but ironically was diagnosed with ovarian cancer the day of the event.

Miranda has made a strong recovery, and her goal is to participate in the Swim again, as a survivor. The team is preparing and fundraising for 2023.
Wonder Woman is an icon that represents perserverance, strength, kicking ass with humor and “going the extra mile” for those who may be lacking strength , health or motivation at the time. This kind of support is what WCRC gives on a daily basis. Services such as in home practical and emotional support, emergency financial help, counseling, nutritional support and wellness classes are all part of the resources WCRC provides.

The Women with Cancer Resource Center has been helping Bay Area Women with Cancer for over 30 years. The Wonder Women continue to support WCRC through the years. Please make a Donation today!

Since 1986, WCRC’s mission has been to improve quality of life for women with cancer and advance equity in cancer support, especially for low-income persons, people of color, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Free services include psychotherapy, support groups, art and wellness classes, community-based patient navigation, and information and referral to community resources.
