Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity
Due to the generous support of our community, over the last 4 years Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity’s annual breakfast has raised $521,000 which provided homeownership opportunities to 6 hard-working Weld County families! Habitat for Humanity is excited to share an opportunity with you to join in our mission to provide safe and affordable homes for modest-income families in Weld County. The Hope Builders Breakfast will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. Dick Monfort, CEO and owner of the Colorado Rockies and a longtime advocate for Habitat for Humanity will be our keynote speaker.
The Hope Builders Breakfast will provide the community a unique opportunity to come together and hear about the continued and increasing impact that Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity is having in Weld County. These initiatives include: Mission Springs, our 95-unit affordable housing development in Evans in partnership with Commonwealth Companies; our Critical Repairs Program which allows seniors to age in place; and the nationally recognized at-risk youth Construction Pathway Program, now in its fourth year and inspiration for over 15 other programs in the U.S. With a drive to serve more families than ever, and over 130 homeowner applications received this year, the need for innovative answers has never been greater. We invite you to join us to discover more about the creative solutions in your community to the growing affordable housing deficit epidemic.
Due to the shortage of affordable housing, families are having to choose between rent over food, healthcare and basic necessities (NCCP). Habitat for Humanity believes that no one lives in dignity until we all do, with a mission to build safe and affordable housing to create homeownership opportunities and a permanent solution to the current housing crisis. We have only been able to provide this stability to families through the support of our generous volunteers, donors, supporters and community partners. It is you, and our Habitat families, who are the heart and soul of the work we do. Your investments as well as working alongside our families, helps them achieve the lifelong tools of independence, strength and self-reliance.

About Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity
Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity (GWHFH), a 501C (3) organization, was incorporated as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International in 1987. GWHFH has since built more than 140 homes in partnership with families in need, with a full-time staff of 21. GWHFH brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Our mission is to work in partnership with the community and families in-need to build decent and affordable homes. GWHFH arguably serves the most economically marginalized families in our community by partnering with families who earn as little as 30% of the area median income. Habitat North, built by GWHFH, is the largest Habitat for Humanity single-family home development west of the Mississippi and was completed in the summer of 2016. Additionally, GWHFH completed the 1st Veteran’s Build for Habitat through the Veteran Build initiative in the State of Colorado in the summer of 2016, the 2nd in the summer of 2017 the 3rd in 2019. After the completion of the Habitat North development, GWHFH began construction of the first home in Crestview, a 14 home, Habitat development. All 14 homes in Crestview were built in part by Jefferson High School Students in the first of its kind GWHFH and Jefferson High School Construction Pathway Program in partnership with Greeley-Evans District 6 which began during the 2016 school year. The program provides the students, who enter our program with a .8 average GPA, an opportunity to build a home for a local family in need, from the ground up learning high in demand trade skills. The students are currently building on their 15th home in year 4 of the Habitat/Jefferson High School collaboration.
Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity’s current Strategic Plan calls for us to triple capacity this year, building 15 homes. Our organization is also in the process of implementing a Critical Repairs program that will allow for smaller home repairs to be performed for another demographic in need. This program would reach seniors and homeowners who cannot afford the smaller but necessary repairs needed to keep their homes safe and habitable. A partnership with an affordable housing developer and DOLA has led to the award of a 1-million-dollar grant in CDBG-DR funds to our affiliate. This partnership and funding will make possible Mission Springs, a affordable housing development in Evans, Colorado which will eventually be a total of 95 units. 27 single family and paired homes for Habitat for Humanity and 68 affordable townhomes and cottages equaling a total of 95 units, replacing about half of the units lost in the 2013 flood.
1 in 4 people spend over 50 % of their pre-tax income on housing, leaving precious little for other basic needs such as food and health care. GWHFH provides a marginalized population the opportunity to end the cycle of poverty for their families while improving their current quality of life in all areas by building equity. Greeley-Weld Habitat for Humanity's services provide decent affordable housing opportunities for low-income families. Although the work is straightforward, GWHFH approaches this basic need in a unique way. To qualify for a GWHFH home, families must meet four basic criteria. First, each family must be living in substandard conditions. Secondly, each family must have the ability to make monthly mortgage payments. Families who qualify for GWHFH homes earn between 30 and 60% of the Weld County median income. Thirdly, each family must agree to partner with GWHFH and invest a minimum of 500 hours of "sweat equity." Sweat equity is comprised of a least 500 construction hours. Homeowners must also complete a series of educational workshops; the time spent participating in the workshops also counts toward the required 500 hours. Finally, to qualify for a Greeley Habitat home each family must demonstrate lawful presence (by proving citizenship or proof of legal permanent residence). GWHFH serves low income hard-working families by helping them to end the cycle of poverty not only in their current family's life but for generations to come. Last year, our organization provided direct services to 92 students and families including their children through our homeownership program, in addition to our Construction career technical service-based learning collaboration with at-risk students, 100% of which are on free and reduced lunch.
