2023 Owl Ride for Jackson
I am a mother of three healthy children, all delivered full-term without any complications. However, I am very well aware that not all mothers are as fortunate. Babies like my friend Carrie and Terry's son, Jackson, are born prematurely and face a fierce battle for every breath. Many of these infants spend months in the NICU, and tragically, some, like Jackson, don't survive.
For families with critically ill babies, the seemingly simple act of spending time with their tiny bundles of joy becomes an expensive burden. Too often, financial constraints lead to infrequent visits, despite the fact that these fragile babies desperately need the touch and care of their loved ones.
As a mother myself, I struggle to imagine the heartache of having a baby in the NICU and being unable to be there due to financial constraints. Carrie and Terry, however, transformed their grief into a legacy by establishing Jackson's Chance—a charity that covers parking expenses for families with NICU babies across Chicagoland hospitals. That's why, for another year, I am committed to riding my bike for 111 miles from Chicago to Valparaiso, Indiana, to raise awareness and gather funds that can truly make a difference for these families in need.
