The Unity Campaign for Frederick County
Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide weekend food for school-aged children across Frederick County who might otherwise go hungry. Every school-aged child in Frederick County has the nourishment needed to learn and grow. As a leader in the movement to end childhood hunger, Blessings strives to ensure children don’t go hungry on the weekends by empowering individuals and communities to take action.
Blessings in a Backpack provides weekend food for over 4,300 children in Frederick County every weekend. Food insecurity knows no bounds and doesn’t discriminate, leaving a projected 13,300 FCPS children affected each day, an increase from 12,000 children before the pandemic. Blessings close the weekend nutrition gap for children fed on weekdays by their school’s free and reduced-price meal programs.
