Dolly Parton's Imagination Library - Giving Tuesday
I'm a crazy reader. If I don't have a book to read, I ..... well, I don't know. I ALWAYS have a book to read! And my love of reading started when I was young -- being read to, then growing to read out loud. Then finally, reading to myself with my nose stuck in a book for hours on end. So I am fundraising to support Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and our local libraries.
A donation of $25 gives a year's worth of age-appropriate books (one every month, delivered right to their door) to a child. I reached my original goal of $250 in a few days, so I bumped it up to $500! We have more than 500(!) kids on the waiting list-- we gotta do something about that! With school likely being chaotic this year, having fantastic books at home at their fingertips will be a wonderful treat for kids!
Reading is so important to children.
- It increases their imagination and helps them learn.
- Studies show that children who are read to when they are younger tend to receive higher grades throughout their education.
- Studies have proven that increased family engagement in educational programs is linked with increases in child reading achievement and other academic successes.
- Even just 15 minutes a day of independent reading can expose students to more than a million words of text in a year.
All dollars raised stay right here in Snyder, Union and Northumberland counties.
